Airspace is a finite resource. It therefore needs to be effectively managed and efficiently used.
A4E actively supports this effort across two key areas:
- Operational efficiency, with an aim to remove political roadblocks and radically reform Europe’s airspace architecture to the benefit of passengers and the environment, whilst maintaining necessary connectivity. Existing structural issues which are hindering progress are being addressed together with the European Commission and its institutions, EUROCONTROL, and the different air traffic management (ATM) stakeholders.
- Achieving a single European aviation market which includes a digital and seamless European airspace. Future investments should be future-proof and allowed to live up to their full potential. To achieve this, A4E is working with all relevant stakeholders to overhaul the Single European Sky (SES) regulatory framework to make it fit for the future and to allow it to achieve the promised CO2 emissions reductions of up to 10%.
