Making air passenger rights clearer and simpler to implement
A4E airlines care for their customers, not because regulations tell us to do so, but because the customer is at the core of everything we do.
A4E supports legislation on air passenger rights that make the rules fairer, clearer, and easier to apply — both for airlines, and their passengers. The revision of Regulation 261/2004 on air passenger rights is extremely important in terms of legal certainty and a fair balance of consumer and industry interests. The European legislators need to urgently proceed with the file. The current Regulation 261/2004 is too detailed and prescriptive in some areas and, at the same time, too vague on the essential points. This continues to generate numerous Court cases across the EU, with judges interpreting the Regulation in differing ways and often extensively.
