Flying is one of the safest — if not the safest, way to travel. Ensuring that safety standards follow a risk-based and data driven assessment, backed by scientific research and operational know-how — will keep it that way.

A4E members work closely with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs), airports and other organisations to maintain safety levels now and in the future.

A4E supports the application of EASA’s New Basic Regulation, calling for more performance-based regulations, the coherent application thereof, as well as the introduction of a risk-based approach. In this sense we are also monitoring the integration of new airspace users, such as drones, into the existing airspace infrastructure.

Key Priorities

• Actively support EASA in their harmonisation efforts towards national aviation and/or national supervisory authorities whilst ensuring a risk and performance based approach to regulation.
• Promote awareness within the industry and actively support a common safety framework for conventional flying and new entrants (drones).
• Ensure a continued coordinated approach in the maintenance area, e.g. REACH or the move towards electronic filing and record keeping.
