A4E analysis shows SES compromise falls short of original objectives

Brussels,

Brussels, 4 March 2024: Airlines for Europe (A4E) is today publishing an analysis of the current set of compromises for Single European Sky (SES2+) being discussed by policymakers as they get set to embark on “trilogue negotiations” on 5 March. This analysis highlights how the current compromises fall far short of the ambitious SES that would deliver for passengers, airlines and the environment.

It shows that in areas such as the performance review body (PRB), the role of National Supervisory Authorities (NSAs), targets and performance, charges, and the environment the current compromises either dilute any reforms or result in an outcome that is worse than the current situation. A4E is publishing this analysis to set out a pathway to strengthen these elements and deliver an effective SES2+.

Ourania Georgoutsakou, Managing Director of Airlines for Europe said, “Throughout its history Europe has stepped up and delivered when it mattered. Our analysis shows that policymakers can and must go further to strengthen our Single European Sky.”

She continued, “This would deliver the reforms Europe’s airspace so desperately needs and which passengers and the environment deserve.”
