Brussels, 22 August 2025 – Airlines for Europe (A4E) takes note of the EU-US joint written statement on trade confirming that aircraft and aircraft parts will fall under the special regime of Most Favoured Nation (MFN) tariffs only from 1 September.
This is a positive development that demonstrates that both sides have recognised the strategic importance of keeping aircraft and spare parts moving across the Atlantic.
For airlines, this decision helps avoid additional costs and uncertainty at a time when the sector is investing heavily in fleet renewal and decarbonisation. It also sends a constructive signal that, even in a challenging geopolitical environment, the EU and US remain committed to keeping aviation supply chains open and resilient.
A4E Managing Director Ourania Georgoutsakou said: “This agreement avoids the worst outcomes and preserves the transatlantic supply chains that underpin jobs, connectivity and climate progress. Europe and the US should continue building on this positive step to strengthen our shared aviation partnership.”
Looking ahead, A4E asks leaders in Europe and the US to keep aviation cooperation central to their economic relationship. The sector sustains millions of jobs, ensures global connectivity and supports the competitiveness of both economies. Strengthening this partnership will be key to delivering prosperity and climate progress in the years ahead.

Notes to Editor
● The EU and US have published a joint written statement establishing a framework for fair, balanced and mutually beneficial transatlantic trade and investment.
● Aircraft and spare parts will be subject to a special regime governed by Most Favoured Nation (MFN) tariffs at 15%, to become effective as of 1 September.
● With aircraft and parts now under the MFN regime, no additional tariffs will apply beyond the WTO baseline — giving airlines predictability for fleet planning and continued investment in lower-emission aircraft.
