Achim Baumann joined A4E as a Policy Director in December 2017 to manage issues related to European air traffic management, safety and engineering and maintenance.
Achim’s work over the last three decades was shaped by the variety of topics, cultures and organisations he was involved with, and defined by a holistic approach driven to find the optimum solutions for all stakeholders. Prior to A4E, Achim worked as IATA Director Safety & Flight Operations in the Middle East/North Africa region (MENA), focussing on improving safety and efficiency in the region’s aviation industry. They were challenging times, and he also represented airline interests towards organisations like ICAO, CANSO, air navigation service providers, airports and government organisations.
Before joining IATA in 2011, Achim worked for the Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS) as a Senior Consultant and Regional Manager. He managed and participated in international projects covering all aspects of aviation, from operational issues on the ground and in the air to technical ATM/CNS and organisational projects. In addition, he managed projects for EUROCONTROL and the European Commission.
The foundation for his professional career was laid between 1986 and 1997, during his time as an officer in the German Airforce, where he managed the use, repair and replacement of equipment and material for the F-4F/RF-4E aircraft, and further reinforced by his position as Deputy Head of a Certification Body for ISO9000. Achim holds a degree in Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich and a degree in Economics from the University of Hagen.
